Application of the pyramid of ideas to create Bauhaus projects. The Bauhaus Pyramid of Ideas.

1. 1 nueva Idea = 1 concepto + 1 concepto.

Adelante!

Application of the pyramid of ideas to create Bauhaus projects. The Bauhaus Pyramid of Ideas.

1. The ideation of projects as a basis for the bottom-up construction of the New European Bauhaus.

From the European Commission all citizens, all peoples, are invited to design the Europe in which we want to live through the New European Bauhaus or New European Bauhaus.

The EU, with its president Ursula Von der Layen at the head, encourages us to co-invent a beautiful, sustainable and inclusive Europe that, from the culture and connecting with the economy, design, agriculture, technology, art, environment, and architecture, among other disciplines, builds the reality that we would like to live in every corner of Europe.

We are asked, then, that each person, each collective, makes its own contribution to the global process by defining new projects that fit into the Bauhasian logic to build an authentic bottom-up dynamic in which, what happens in Europe at the macro level, will be defined by the concrete proposals of the citizenship.

As a starting point it is impeccable, but analyzing the strategy we understand that it may be important to add a piece to the puzzle, a piece that we believe is missing. We are asked to contribute new project ideas, new proposals that have Bauhaus DNA, but how are these ideas created? Is there a simple way to create Bauhaus projects that is applicable to all territories?

The answer is, emphatically yes.

And there will not be one way, but many ways to generate these project ideas, but in this article we want to share with you an adaptation to the Bauhaus ecosystem of the technique of «The Idea Pyramid», a tool designed by the emprendedorex team that has been helping people invent meaningful projects for their lives by connecting concepts for more than 15 years.

Linus Pauling, illustrious American scientist and Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, once said:

«The only way to have good ideas is to have many ideas.»

Linus Pauling.

This same principle is the one we use in the Pyramid of Ideas, except that, instead of encouraging ideas to have a random origin, we articulate a process to generate them from concepts connected to people’s passions to ensure that these ideas that arise from the association of concepts can become truly relevant to their promoters.

The Bauhaus Pyramid of Ideas that we describe in this article is an adaptation to the Bauhaus environment of the original Pyramid of Ideas by adding the core elements, the heart of the New European Bauhaus, to the original creative process that has so often been put into practice and validated by people all over the world.

2. Fundamentals of the Bauhaus Pyramid of Ideas technique to generate project ideas that fit into the Bauhaus ecosystem.

1. 1 new Idea = 1 concept + 1 concept.
It is addition applied to the creation of projects as a basic tool to build the world.

What is a chupa-chups but a stick plus a candy? (chupa chups = stick + candy).

What is a smartphone but a phone plus a computer? (Smartphone = phone + computer).

And so we could continue example after example, because the technique of concept addition has been and is one of the most used tools to generate new ideas in creative processes. Why not use it to create Bauhaus projects?

2. Passion as a source of project generation.
We seek to generate beautiful, sustainable and inclusive projects, but also meaningful projects for the people who define them. We seek the definition of initiatives that can become a reality and for this it is essential that there is a desire and even a need for concretion by their promoters. What better way then to make these new projects with Bauhaus logic arise from the passions of people?

As a wise man from the East, probably Confucius, once said: «Work doing what you like and you will never work a day in your life».

3. Universal validity.
A creative tool is all the more valuable the less its success depends on the profile of the person who is using it or his or her location in the world.

This fact has special relevance in the field of the New European Bauhaus, which seeks models that are applicable to any person in any of its territories. Therefore we understand that the fit of the Bauhaus Pyramid of Ideas is especially good in the ecosystem of the New European Bauhaus.

4. Bauhaus simplicity.
One of the mantras of the Bauhaus is «less is more» and this concept is applied directly in the Bauhaus Pyramid of Ideas that has a very simple development without detracting from its effectiveness and applicability.

5. Individual or collective application.
The Bauhaus Pyramid of Ideas is versatile, it can be applied both individually, based on the concerns and passions of a person, and as a group, articulating the dynamics from principles or shared interests of a group to generate collective projects.

6. From divergence to convergence.
Following the principle stated by Pauling that to have good ideas it is necessary to have many ideas, the Bauhaus Pyramid is based on generating a large number of proposals so that, starting from that initial divergent moment, converging and selecting the idea with which to continue the process.

7. Innovation in repetition.
There is no single «solution» to the Bauhaus Pyramid of Ideas. On the contrary, there are as many different results as times the person puts the tool into practice, even using the same starting terms.

3. Development of the Bauhaus Pyramid of Ideas.

Next we will describe the process of implementing the Bauhaus Pyramid of Ideas.

Step 1. Draw the following diagram on a piece of paper.

Step 2. Close your eyes and visualize yourself developing your greatest passion, the thing that interests you most, the activity or concern that motivates you the most and to which you would like to dedicate, if you could, all your time.

Write down that passion in box 1 of the pyramid.

Step 3. Repeat the previous exercise thinking of other interests or activities that you are also passionate about.

Write them down in boxes 2 through 6 of the pyramid. Don’t worry about the order; it is not important.

Step 4. Now write in boxes 7, 8 and 9 of the pyramid the basic elements of the New European Bauhaus:

  • In box 7 write the term «Beauty» (aesthetics, design).
  • In box 8 write the term «Sustainability» (environment, circular economy).
  • In box 9 write the term «Inclusion» (integration, equality).

Step 5. Go back to box 1 of the pyramid. Then think of a small project (or not so small, as you wish) that you can develop with the concept you have written in box 1.

Write the project, making a description of no more than one paragraph below the pyramid.

For example, if in box 1 of your pyramid you have written «music», as a project you can write «design an app to map the music groups of my Autonomous Community and from that app they can share professional services and offer performances», for example.

Step 6. Repeat the procedure of point 5, but this time writing projects with the concepts that you have written in boxes 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 of your pyramid.

Once you have completed step 6 you will have described 6 project ideas based on your passions. Let’s continue!

Step 7. Now it’s time to play and apply the addition technique, creating new concepts from the sum of two existing concepts. Let the dynamics surprise you and think big. Here we go.

Go back to the pyramid and:

  • Write a small project that includes the concepts written in boxes 1 and 8 of the pyramid.
  • Write a small project that includes the concepts written in boxes 2 and 9 of the pyramid.
  • Write a small project that includes the concepts written in boxes 3 and 7 of the pyramid.

Let’s make the game a little more interesting:

  • Write a small project that includes the concepts written in boxes 1, 4, and 9 of the pyramid.
  • Write a small project that includes the concepts written in boxes 2, 5 and 7 of the pyramid.
  • Write a small project that includes the concepts written in boxes 3, 6 and 8 of the pyramid.

Finish with the most difficult (and surprising) yet:

  • Write a small project that includes the concepts written in boxes 1, 7, 8, and 9 of the pyramid.
  • Write a small project that includes the concepts written in boxes 2, 7, 8 and 9 of the pyramid.
  • Write a small project that includes the concepts written in boxes 3, 7, 8 and 9 of the pyramid.
  • Write a small project that includes the concepts written in boxes 1, 2, 7 and 8 of the pyramid.
  • Write a small project that includes the concepts written in boxes 5, 6, 8 and 9 of the pyramid.
  • Write a small project that includes the concepts written in the boxes of your choice on the pyramid (there is no restriction).

If you have completed this step 7 of the dynamic you will have created 12 more project ideas that are part of your passions but that are also linked to a greater or lesser or greater extent with the core elements of the New European Bauhaus. That wasn’t so hard, was it?

Step 8. Choose from all the Bauhaus project ideas that you have defined in the previous step, the three ideas that you love the most, the ones that seem the most special to you or, simply, the ones that you think can have the greatest impact.

Share the ideas with 5 people, ask them for their opinion and write down their feedback.

Step 9. With the valuable information obtained in step 8, evaluate which is, in your opinion, the best project idea, the one that can be more viable, the one that can have more development or simply the one that excites you the most and write it down on a sheet of paper, describing it as accurately as possible following the format shown in the following image.

«Et voilá», in a few steps you have managed to define an idea of Bauhaus project on which to start working until it becomes a real and tangible initiative in the logic of the New Bauhaus and, why not, in a Vital Project.

As can be seen, the simple and versatile dynamics of work in the Bauhaus Pyramid allows the generation of a large number of project ideas at a general level or seek thematic biases by selecting the appropriate terms associated with the areas or disciplines you want to explore.

In any case, it is an appropriate tool for the massive generation of Bauhaus project ideas in the territories that guarantee the bottom-up implementation of the New European Bauhaus in each of the countries, provinces, regions, counties and municipalities of Europe.

Let’s continue building Europe from beauty, sustainability and inclusion. From the eyes, the soul and the heart.

Let’s go ahead!
